MIUI 13 Privacy White Paper - Xiaomi

3.1 System Settings

3.1.1 Permission Settings

Control what apps are allowed to do

MIUI allows you to manage autostart, app permissions and notifications, restrict data usage, and clear local app data or the cache on your smartphone. You can manage and change your settings at any time*.

To access this feature, go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps, and select an app to see the App info tab.

*Note: Autostart refers to the process whereby an application uses certain system mechanisms to start by itself without the user's active operation. Autostart is essential for achieving specific functions required by the user, but certain autostarts may not align with the customer's needs and can lead to performance degradation, as well as security and privacy risks.

Some system apps may not be subject to these controls, and the scope of such apps is strictly controlled. For example, the Security Center is a critical system application that ensures the security of your smartphone's operating system, and numerous security checks and defence mechanisms depend on its proper functioning. As a result, autostart for the Security Center is mandatory and strictly controlled.

3.1.2 Private Space

Keep private things in a place of their own

MIUI provides you with a series of private spaces for Photos, Files and Notes. You can access messages that contain private contacts, as well as private photos, videos, and files, only by entering the privacy protection password or verifying with your fingerprint. You can also decide whether notifications about private messages should be displayed. To access this feature, go to Settings > Passwords & security > Privacy protection password.

3.1.3 Find or Lock a Lost Device

Protect your data when at risk

MIUI enables you to locate and manage your lost device, designed to enhance data protection. You can locate your phone, mark it as lost, or erase data remotely in the Xiaomi Cloud. A phone marked as lost is under your control, even if it is wiped or restored to factory settings.

To access this feature, go to Settings > Mi Account > Xiaomi Cloud > Find device.
